Important note: Theses are only estimates based on the selected building type and not valid as an actual Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). The EPC for your home may vary.  If your home doesn't have an EPC  we recommend contacting an accredited energy assessor for a full EPC survey before making any decisions. You can access your EPC using the button below.

Your step by step retrofit plan

In the case where the package of solutions cannot be implemented out at once (lack of time, money, too much inconvenience, or any other reason), it is possible to carry out the retrofitting work through a step-by-step approach. One way of doing this is to prepare a “medium-term improvement plan”.

According to the British standard for domestic retrofitting PAS2035, “The purpose of a medium-term improvement plan is to guide the staged or phased improvement of a dwelling by identifying the improvements that are needed and an appropriate order for their implementation.” It is the responsibility of the retrofit coordinator to develop the medium-term improvement plan.

PAS2035 recommends that retrofit measures should be implemented in five stages:

01.

Repair any defects

Repair defects that alter the energy efficiency of the building and compromise improvement measures. For example, dealing with water ingress, dump walls, cracks, and gaps in walls before applying any insulation.

02.

Install the most cost-effective measures

Install the most cost-effective measures also known as “low hanging fruit” such as energy efficient lighting, basic heating controls, better control settings.

03.

Insulate the building envelope

Insulate the building envelope (walls, roof, floor, windows, and doors), improve the airtightness, and install mechanical ventilation.

04.

Install efficient systems

Install efficient heating technology (Air Source Heat Pump, high efficiency boiler) and responsive controls (thermostat, thermostatic radiator valves).

05.

Renewable energies

Use renewable energy technologies (solar photovoltaic panels, solar thermal panels, wind turbine) to further improve the performance of the dwelling.
